چکیده

to the glass transition in dense colloidal dispersions using asymptotic expansions in the schematic F (γ̇) 12 model of mode coupling theory. The shear thinning of the viscosity in fluid states and the yielding of glassy states is discussed. At the transition between fluid and shear-molten glass, simple and generalized Herschel-Bulkley laws are derived with power law exponents that can be computed for different particle interactions from the equilibrium structure factor.

Flow curves of colloidal dispersions close to the glass transition. Asymptotic scaling laws in a schematic model of mode coupling theory.

The flow curves, viz. the curves of stationary stress under steady shearing, are obtained close to the glass transition in dense colloidal dispersions using asymptotic expansions in the schematic F₁₂(γ)-model of mode coupling theory. The shear thinning of the viscosity in fluid states and the yielding of glassy states is discussed. At the transition between fluid and shear-molten glass, simple ...

Asymptotic analysis of mode-coupling theory of active nonlinear microrheology.

We discuss a schematic model of mode-coupling theory for force-driven active nonlinear microrheology, where a single probe particle is pulled by a constant external force through a dense host medium. The model exhibits both a glass transition for the host and a force-induced delocalization transition, where an initially localized probe inside the glassy host attains a nonvanishing steady-state ...

Universal and nonuniversal features of glassy relaxation in propylene carbonate

It is demonstrated that the susceptibility spectra of supercooled propylene carbonate as measured by depolarized-light scattering, dielectric-loss, and incoherent quasielastic neutron-scattering spectroscopy within the GHz window are simultaneously described by the solutions of a two-component schematic model of the mode-coupling theory (MCT) for the evolution of glassy dynamics. It is shown th...

The β-relaxation dynamics of a simple liquid

We present a detailed analysis of the β-relaxation dynamics of a simple glass former, a Lennard-Jones system with a stochastic dynamics. By testing the various predictions of mode-coupling theory, including the recently proposed corrections to the asymptotic scaling laws, we come to the conclusion that in this time regime the dynamics is described very well by this theory.

Percolation approach to glassy dynamics with continuously broken ergodicity.

We show that the relaxation dynamics near a glass transition with continuous ergodicity breaking can be endowed with a geometric interpretation based on percolation theory. At the mean-field level this approach is consistent with the mode-coupling theory (MCT) of type-A liquid-glass transitions and allows one to disentangle the universal and nonuniversal contributions to MCT relaxation exponent...
